The fact that recent times have witnessed a massive shift in the filmmaking business is known to all but Charlie Kaufman begs to differ. Charlie Kaufman Says Netflix Didn't 'Ruin' Movies - Studios Did.

Since the time Netflix made its entry into the scene, it has smartly established itself as a major game-changer for content creation and many have already argued about what it meant for the future of film.

So far there have been several detractors and benefactors who claim that either Netflix or other streaming services are ruining the industry or are making it a lot better. Many have actively participated in the discussion which includes people like Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, and Edward Norton.

To add in the list is Charlie Kaufman who seems to be the latest star to chime in on the debate. Currently, the star is awaiting the release of his next movie called I’m Thinking Of Ending Things which is all set to be out on the 4th of September.

As per reports shared by Indiewire, Kaufman has noted about his not so smooth going record at the box office that can be either in terms of writing or directing a movie or maybe both. Regardless of all this, Kaufman has claimed that it’s a lot more challenging these days to get a unique screenplay approved just for production.

Kaufman further stated that there used to be a point in his life when he could experiment as an artist, but as the years have rolled the business has changed drastically, especially in the period after 2008. He has claimed that the studios are no longer making movies but are instead making tentpoles.

According to Kaufman, one of the many reasons why Netflix attracts experimental filmmakers at this point is because the studios no longer are willing to take a chance on them. It seems that they are only willing to pay for the creation of franchise films and others that are more likely to become a box office success that comprises of either sequels or remake of popular movies.

Kaufman further explained that it is quite infuriating when people say that Netflix is ruining the business because this is what films and the studios have done it to themselves.

And to give a final polish to his statement, Kaufman claimed that he had a great screenplay called Frank or Francis, which has many big-name stars attached but he still couldn’t get it approved even on a humble budget of $11million.

These days Netflix has been known to allow making changes that further allow their creators a chance at winning awards.
