Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, the Glee co-creators have come together to create a college fund for Josey, Naya Rivera’s 4-year-old son. The news was reportedly announced on Tuesday, which was the day after Rivera, a singer, and actor who had played Santana Lopez on the hit TV musical comedy Glee was found dead in a Southern California lake.
Rivera’s body was discovered on Monday which was five days after she had surprisingly disappeared on Lake Piru, the same place where her son Josey was found alone on a boat which the two of them had rented, on July 8. The news that the body was Rivera’s was thereby confirmed by Sheriff’s Office.
As per a joint statement released by the Glee creators, Naya was not a part of the series regularly while they had cast her on Glee. She did not even have more than a few lines in the pilot. But it was only after a few episodes that the team had realized that they had lucked into finding one of the most talented and special stars that they would have ever have the pleasure of working with.
They had further stated that Rivera was someone who could act, sing, and dance, all at the same time, and nail a joke as well as she could easily rush into an emotional scene. They also wrote that she could easily make the drift between being scary tough and deeply vulnerable. The actor was a joy to write for, a sheer joy to direct, and a joy to be around.
They went on to reveal that Naya was indeed responsible for several iconic Glee musical performances like - The Adele Mash-Up, Valerie, Songbird, but her greatest Glee legacy is probably the humor and the humanity that she brought to Santana’s relationship with her best friend and then eventual girlfriend/ wife Brittany, the part which was played by Heather Morris.
The team had all good things to say about the late actor and went on to say that it was one of the very first times that an openly lesbian, high school relationship was ever telecasted on the network television and Naya understood that pretty well. She understood that Brittana was indeed meant to the many young women out there who were seeing them represented on the television for the very first time.
Moreover, Naya was someone who always made sure that Santana’s love for Brittany was expressed with dignity, strength, and also with pure emotions. She was someone who was moved by the girls who used to reach out to her and tell her how much Santana and Brittany’s love affected them in real.
They added that Naya’s obligation to all of her fans and to those who reached out to her was quite obvious. She possessed the rare combination of humility and endless confidence in her talent.
The Glee creators didn’t shy away from saying that Rivera was in actual a real pro who was always on time on the set and always came prepared with her lines irrespective of the giant mouthfuls of dialogue that the directors often handed out to her. Her joyful personality always kept everyone laughing on the set.
She was warm, caring, and also fiercely protective of the rest of the cast members. But at the same time, she was tough and demanding. She was what we call the perfect combination of fun, generous, and all things desirable, they wrote.
The team confessed that there were times when things weren’t in our favor and there were certainly ups and downs during the wonderful yet stressful years while making Glee. There were times when we disagreed on something, fought, made up, and then fought some more, and then made up again. All the things that could probably happen within a family, were all present, and Naya was more than just an actor us on our show, she was a friend.
They shared their heartfelt message and wrote that their hearts reach out to her family, and especially her mother, Yolanda, who was a big part of the Glee family and also her son Josey.
As per the latest reports, before they signed the letter as Ryan, Ian, and Brad, the three of them are currently in the process of creating a college fund for Naya’s beautiful son whom she loved the most.
Rivera achieved fame by gaining national attention for playing Santana Lopez on Glee which aired from 2009 until 2015 on Fox.
She stepped into the world of acting at the age of 4 and had appeared in series like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters, and The Bernie Mac Show.
Rivera was married to actor Ryan Dorsey back in 2014 and gave birth to their son Jorsey in 2015. She used to call her youngest son as her greatest success and that she would have never done anything better than him.
News also has it that Rivera was arrested and charged in West Virginia in 2017 with misdemeanor domestic battery after she had allegedly hit Dorsey. However, the charge was dismissed because Dorsey did not wish to press any sort of charges on her. But they soon had a divorce after this incident.
Dorsey who still has not yet made any official statement about the demise of his ex-wife was however spotted at Lake Piru on Sunday.
Rivera used to survive by her parents, Yolanda and George, a younger brother named Mychal, a sister named Nickayla, and her 4-year-old son.
