Amidst the ongoing pandemic crisis, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reportedly sent greetings to Canada’s Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities, wishing them all a very happy Diwali.

The PM over a video chat with ET Canada’s Sangita Patel spoke about the Indian Festival of Lights as part of the National Virtual Diwali Celebration event being hosted by the members of the Government of Canada.

However, at first, Trudeau was being questioned about making the call to the U.S. President-elect Joe Biden to congratulate him on being elected as the next president of the United States.

The Prime Minister stated that it is always important to ensure that they have a good relationship with the United States because that is something they have always worked on very hard over the past couple of years and sometimes even during challenging situations. He further added that Joe would be the third American president and that the situations have never been easy because the issues are quite important.

He continued saying that however, there are a lot of issues on which they connect, whether that is on climate change, or on working together on the world stage. According to him, there are a lot of good things that they are going to do in the coming years.

Now, moving on to the topic of Diwali, Trudeau expressed much excitement and stated that it’s so very exciting to be able to celebrate with the South Asian community. He even said that Diwali is so important for all as it symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, of good over evil, and during a time when everyone is struggling with the COVID-19 virus, celebrating the festival of lights allows them all to come together virtually and keep our loved ones safe.

When Trudeau was asked how he and his family are currently coping up with the COVID-19 pandemic at home, Trudeau replied that they all are now learning an awful lot about various things that they previously used to take for granted, and also about the things they have previously missed out on.

Trudeau went on to admit that over the past couple of years he was always off at work, traveling, or doing all sorts of things, but the COVID has forced them all to connect and bond together a lot more with family. He even confessed that the pandemic has allowed him to devote proper attention towards his kids as they have all have been locked together and are now spending a lot of time at home together as he is never traveling now except by Zoom, that has brought something intriguing which everyone is going to hold on to for a very long time, he continued.

Trudeau said that even though this time seems difficult to all and there are so many families who have faced real tragedies and are truly sailing through some dark days, there are certain things that help them all remember the ability to lean on each other and be there for the people who are most important in our lives.

When Patel said that Diwali is all about joy, and so what’s the thing that brings joy to him. Trudeau answered, the kids.
