This year’s Grammy nomination has created a lot of controversies as the list of nominees came out. Artists like Drake, The Weekend, and Nicky Minaj bashed the nomination system of Grammy awards, calling it biased towards white artists.

The Weekend, not being happy with the shortlisted nominees said, "You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency". He calls the ceremony ‘Corrupted’ as his album ‘After Hours’ was not featured in the album of the year and song of the year categories.

Drake added further, “accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after".

Rap Queen Nicky Minaj also criticized The Grammy Awards for constantly overlooking the black artists. She tweeted, "Never forget the Grammys didn't give me my best new artist award when I had seven songs simultaneously charting on Billboard & bigger first week [sales] than any female rapper in the last decade,". She also said, "They gave it to the white man Bon Iver."

However, a Grammys advisory group named ‘The Black Music Collective’ praised the diversity of the nomination showcasing the exclusive artists.

They said, "It's a historic year as 10 black women are nominated in the top four categories and more than 20 black nominees are represented in the general fields,". They added further that "Also, for the first time, all six nominees for Best Rap Album are black independent artists. This is progress."
