The Weekend produced a handful number of musical hits this year from his latest album After Hours. But he is utterly displeased by the Grammy nominations this year.
Drake is among the few musicians who are not happy to see this year’s nominees. He can’t believe that The Weekend could not get approval at the Grammys even after one after another chart-busting brainchild. He is truly upset to see the names of the categories that shut his friend out completely.
He is not silent about the unfair business and creates a storm on social media to complain about the whole system that he thinks is biased.
"I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after," Drake posts this on his official Instagram page. He adds one more remark on his Instagram stories saying, "It's like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can't change their ways."
The Weekend is considered to be a mastermind when it comes to sabotaging the pop and R&B industry with his new-age concept of musicality that brandishes his unusual style. After Hours, his new album in 2020 has become a huge commercial hit all over the world. But the critical success seems not to be enough to get Grammy nods.
According to Drake, The Weekend deserves to be on that huge list of singers if it ever honestly idealized the efforts and musical accomplishment of a song or an album. He was sure of cheering for The Weekend for being on that list as he said, “The Weeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way."
He added, "This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”
The Grammy nominations were out on Tuesday and the very same day, The Weekend took to Twitter to denigrate the officials for bending towards the White generation of the American musicians. "The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency," he wrote.
Harvey Mason Jr., the Recording Academy's chair and interim president/CEO puts up another humble story in an interview with CNN saying, "We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated."
He stated, "I was surprised and can empathize with what he's feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone's admiration.”
He mentioned that everyone was thrilled to find out that he would be glorifying the stage at the upcoming Super Bowl.
