Johnny Depp recently applied to the Court of Appeal in the U.K to invalidate the verdict that he assaulted his now ex-wife Amber Heard by abusing her mentally and physically.

In November Depp brought a defamation case against the owner of the Sun tabloid newspaper that branded him as a ‘wife beater’. Johnny Depp lost the case back then as the judge ruled against him.

The judge at the court, Justice Andrew Nicol ruled that the defendants proved that the allegations that they brought against the actor in their publication were ‘substantially true’ in a high-profile trial in London over the summer where both Depp and Amber brought allegation on each other of abuse with shocking and contradictory stories coming into light.

The 57-year-old actor filed a smear case against News Group Newspapers, publisher of The Sun, and the newspaper’s executive editor, Dan Wootton for their April 2018 article that indicted that Depp abused his then-wife Amber Heard. The unfavorable ruling at the UK court had a tremendous negative impact on his both personal and professional life causing him to lose many lucrative movie roles.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star resigned from the Fantastic Beats film franchise after the ruling of the court. He revealed later that studio Warner Bros. asked him to step away from the film.

Justice Andrew Nicol rejected Depps request to appeal the verdict in November. He said, ‘I do not consider that the proposed grounds of appeal have a reasonable prospect of success.’

Later he gave Depp until December 7th to apply directly to the court of appeal.

He previously ordered Depp to pay the legal fees of the News Group Newspapers, which was over $1 million.

Depp explained after the ruling that he will not be stopped by the ‘surreal judgment of the court in the U.K’. He will continue to fight to reveal the truth to the world and will be appealing to the court soon.

It is still unclear on what ground the Actor is presenting his appeal and whether it will be approved this time or not.

Depp has also sued ex-wife Heard in the US over her comment that she was a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. But she did not name Depp in it.

In the Sun tabloid newspaper, it was alleged that Depp assaulted Heard in different parts of the world 14 times. The most horrific one is described by Heard as a ‘three-day hostage situation’ that happed in Australia when Depp was there filming one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Heard blamed the abuse by Depp on his alleged drug and alcohol abuse. She said that the actor turned into ‘the monster’ under their influences. She accused him of hitting, slapping, and shoving her, and also pulling her hair and throwing bottles at her multiple times between 2013 and 2016.
