Her family is in a critical state as they said, "Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed."

The police found her dead under "no suspicious circumstances" but they said that it was “sudden”. She celebrated her 50th birthday only five days ago.

Her family stated, "It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on 22nd December 2020.”Her family requested to maintain the required privacy. They said, “Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date."

The 50-year-old model garnered numerous amounts of fame for being the face of British Vogue at the age of 22 in 1993. She began to work for famous designers and fashion houses including Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Burberry.

Versace reminded the golden memories of working with the young supermodel via Twitter: “Versace is mourning the death of #StellaTennant. Stella was Gianni Versace’s muse for many years and friend of the family. We will miss you forever Stella. Rest In Peace.”

Stella Tennant was very popular in the fashion industry for her luscious androgynous look and high-born title. She was the granddaughter of the 11th Duke of Devonshire, Andrew Cavendish, and Deborah Mitford.

She once featured in the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games and she was accompanied by other British models like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

She studied at Winchester School of Art. She ushered in sculpting, being the first love of her life. Her skill was discovered by Vogue photographer Steven Meisel. She couldn’t make her mind at first if she wanted to flourish in a modeling career.

In her interview with The Evening Standard in 2016, she said, "I didn't know if I wanted to be objectified. I thought it was a big, shallow world and I wasn't really sure if I liked the look of it."

But she eventually joined the fashion world in the 90s saying that was "a great time to start modeling".

When she conceived her first child in 1998, she retired from the catwalk. Then she was married to the French photographer David Lasnet in 1999. She was a mother of four kids.

Last year she told the Guardian: "It's going to take us a long time to change our habits, but I think that this is so obviously a step in the right direction.”

On Tuesday, police officers were called to an address in Duns, Scottish Borders, around 11.30 am with a report of her sudden death.

"Her next of kin have been made aware.”
