It was about time that The Weeknd revealed the reasons behind his face bandages. He has been praised throughout the entirety of his career for his quirky and eccentric choices. Be it in terms of his music, his themes, his promotional methods; he has always stood out in terms of his creative sense and aesthetics. Last year, we saw the singer delivering one of the most critically-acclaimed hits of his career with his album After Hour. However, he has not slowed down or taken a time off. He continues to deliver more content that sweeps the audience off its feet. His latest release is the music video for the song ‘Save Your Tears’ which establishes him as the ruling king of individuality in the music industry once again.

The video finally reveals the story or theme behind his highly-discussed face bandages that he has been rocking since the 2020 American Music Awards. The audience is used to seeing his face in blood and swollen eyes and nose. However, in this particular video, what lies underneath those strings of bandages is plastic or prosthetics. While his blotched face is one of the biggest head-turners of the music video, audiences were quick to point out something else as well. The music video features a cameo of a woman who is a Selena Gomez lookalike. She plays the role of an unmasked woman who desires to shoot The Weeknd in his head. However, in the end, she did not dare to go forward and pull the trigger. Although the resemblance is very subtle, the audience was very quick to point out the striking feature of this woman in comparison with Selena Gomez in her music video for the song, ‘Dance Again’.

The audience is still not sure if the creative inclusion hints at anything in their relationship. Selena and The Weeknd dated briefly in 2017 between January and October. However, as per the news, the two musicians ended their relationship on good terms. In an interview back in 2017, Selena said that she is really happy and proud of the fact that they parted ways amicably. She added that it is something she has never experienced before. Their relationship ended with them as best friends and they were mutual encouragement and cares for each other which is remarkable given how couples part ways with baggage.

The video is filled with various symbolic themes. One of the most notable ones shows The Weeknd picking up an award and throwing it across the room. Some have pointed out that it refers to his viral post that calls out Grammy’s creative insincerity after failing to give his album After Hours a single nomination. With each passing day, the artist is coming out with more and more new content that is captivating the creative space of the music world. The Weeknd is one of the best things that happened to music.
