The Weeknd reunites with Ariana Grande seven years after their musical collaboration with ‘Love Me Harder’. Now, he is back again reuniting with the pop artist for the remix video of his song ‘Save Your Tears’. The video will have the artists transform into animated characters.

The audience is quite emotional about this reunion. The collaboration is taking place almost after a decade after 31-year-old The Weeknd and 27-year-old Arana teamed up for the song. ‘Save Your Tears’ is his 2019 hit from the album, After Hours. The remixed song will also come with a new video that will have the two characters turns into their cartoon counterparts. The new video also has a compelling storyline.

In the video, the audience will be taken into The Weeknd’s secret laboratory in the desert where he is constructing the perfect Ms. Grande. This may also be a thematic insinuation as Ariana also played a mad scientist building an Ari robot in her music video for ‘34+35’. The animated video was directed by Jack Brown.

The Weeknd and Ariana first teased that they were working together on Monday, April 19 when they both shared an eight-second snippet of their vocals harmonizing alongside the lyrics of the song. A few days later, they confirmed the collaboration by sharing the remix’s official artwork to their social media accounts. The art depicted an animated version of Ariana being reflected in the giant sunglasses of The Weeknd’s After Hours character.

This song marks the third collaboration between the artists. Apart from ‘Love Me Harder’, they also got together for ‘off the table’ from Ariana’s 2020 album called Positions. Released in 2014, “Love Me Harder” peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Ariana’s fourth consecutive top-ten single off of her album. It was The Weeknd’s first top ten entry in the United States. The lead single to the Fifty Shade of Grey soundtrack helped introduced The Weeknd to a wider, mainstream audience. It laid the groundwork for his subsequent superstar success. The Weeknd enjoyed subsequent success with hits like ‘The Hills’, ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, and Starboy’. ‘Love Me Harder’ introduced The Weeknd to Max Martin, one of the song’s writers and one of the most successful songwriters today.

He told Variety in 2020, “Ariana was kinda my foot in the door with Max, my chance to show him ‘I can play this game,’ y’know? But when we got in the room together, we didn’t really connect as much. Then someone invited him to a show I did at the Hollywood Bowl, and he saw 15,000 people singing along, and I think he was like, ‘OK, there’s something I’m not getting.’ So we sat down again, and the first song we created was ‘In the Night.’”

Collaborations are one of the fastest ways to reach out to the audience and Ariana and The Weeknd are of the same opinion.
