The pop singers Adele and The Weekend scored the world’s best-selling record of 2021.

The album ‘30’ by Adele and the single ‘Save Your Tears’ by The Weekend got sold the most this year according to the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry).

It’s the second successive year that The Weekend achieved this award.

IFPI said that Adele’s album ‘30’ got sold more than 5 million copies in this brief time of 2 months, which makes it the biggest-selling record on vinyl and CD. It has made it to Billboard Hot 100 chart too.

The song ‘Easy On Me’ from the album became the most streamed song worldwide on Spotify. It broke BTS’s Spotify record in a single day.

On the other hand ‘Save Your Tears’ charted top in 18 countries and has been streamed more than 2.15 billion times. Last year The Weekend, the Canadian singer possessed this award with his biggest hit ‘Blinding Lights’. This year too ‘Blinding Lights’ have taken the spot of No.7.

Apart from this Canadian singer Justin Bieber has also saved the position of No.2 with the track ‘Stay’. This has been a collaboration with the young Australian singer The Kid Laroi.

These two songs have successfully crossed 2 billion streaming in 2021.

The chart is filled with songs of the singers like Dua Lipa, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, and Ed Sheeran.

IFPI usually makes this annual chart basis on the number of downloads, physical purchases, and streaming of the song around the world.

IFPI starts to calculate this from the very beginning of the year and if you look into it then all the songs on the chart are released before June 2021. But the album ‘30’ was released much later but in just six weeks it has broken all the records and made it to the chart.
