Because of the strict and aggressive quarantine measures taken by the Vietnam government, the country had managed to keep a tight grasp over the Coronavirus pandemic for more than three months. But Vietnam’s health ministry had made an announcement on Friday that there has been a report of local transmission. They stated that the transmission occurred in Danang, a popular tourist hotspot. A 57-year-old man from that area had tested positive three times leading to the isolation of more than 50 people that he came in contact with.

With firm social distancing and quarantine measures and an extensive testing program, the country managed to keep the count immensely low at only 415 cases, and also there were no reports on locally transmitted infections for 100 days.

But the recent event has again put the country on high alert. More than one hundred people connected to the man have been tested for Coronavirus and thankfully all of the tests came back negative, the official statement said.

The health ministry is yet to confirm the case as COVID-19 positive officially. Just as Vietnam was about to resume international commercial flights and as domestic tourism is surging, this new case could make a difference in their decision.

The reports have not confirmed how the man contracted the virus but it was made clear that he had not left Danang for nearly a month. It says that he was first diagnosed with pneumonia.

The authorities in Hanoi reinforced the suggestion to wear a face mask in public places late on Friday as Vietnam’s benchmark VN Index closed down 3.22%.

The country still had not lifted the ban on international commercial flights and foreign experts and skilled workers were only allowed to enter Vietnam during this ongoing pandemic undergoing a mandatory centralized quarantine. The strict quarantine measure helped the country to deal with the foreign transmission.

Almost 150 positive cases were reported in the last three months and all of them from the people who came to the country from other countries. They were quarantined upon arrival. Vietnam government has announced earlier this week that they will be extracting nearly 130 Vietnamese citizens tested positive with the virus from Equatorial Guinea.

There were reports of six local cases in Danang in March this year. This supposedly occurred after the U.S. aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt conducted a port visit to the city.
