The number of COVID-19 positive cases is continuously rising in Australia’s virus-hit state of Victoria and the death records are pointing directly at the futility of the six-week lockdown in Melbourne. Seizing all activities in the capital city apparently is not enough to tackle the proliferation of the contagious virus.

So far 13 new deaths and 723 cases were confirmed on Thursday, which is almost 36% jump on cases reported on Monday.

The capital of Australia is under lockdown since the last one month and the rapid increase in COVID positive cases puts the government in dire straits to begin the second phase of the lockdown.

Melbourne’s lockdown started on July 7 and it is likely to get extended. Thursday the city had the highest number of deaths.

Officials in Victoria have requested symptomatic people to get tested as soon as possible. There is news the people with symptoms are exposing themselves to other people violating the basic rules. Sick people are breaking the first and foremost rule of fighting with Coronavirus, self-distancing, and some are avoiding to get tested. These things are misleading the situation and the government is trying hard to keeping the surge down.

"If you've got symptoms, the only thing you can do is get tested," said Premier Daniel Andrews.

Self-isolation is the key to keep the virus from spreading. Daniel Andrews aware people saying, "You just can't go to work. Because all you'll be doing is spreading the virus."

During this lockdown, the people of Melbourne are ordered to maintain social distancing by staying at home. People are not allowed to leave their homes except for exercise, food shopping, work, and caregiving.

It is still unusual for people to accept mask as a mandatory accessory that ensures safety. Many cities haven’t made it mandatory to wear masks while going out in public places but Melbourne is the one Australian city that has moved it from optional to an obvious rule for the people after the death rates have increased surprisingly.

People of the city also hope that the virus will wash away with the second or the third or final lockdown. Things are still ugly in the city and people have to be careful enough so that the cases don’t jump.
