This Tuesday, YouTube said that the tech company has put a suspension on President Trump’s channel following concerns regarding spreading political violence and propaganda. YouTube becomes another technology company that has put a limit to the president’s online activities.

YouTube took to Twitter to confirm the news. The Google-owned video-sharing platform said that the decision of suspension came after one of his latest videos failed to maintain policies against violent content.

This means that the president will not be able to upload videos on his channel of 2.8 million subscribers for as long as seven days, to say the least. They mentioned that all the comments under his videos will be disabled indefinitely.

Many technical giants including Twitter shunned Trump after a mob consisting of his supporters led violent acts in the U.S. Capitol last week. Following the incident, social media websites like Facebook and Instagram also suspended his activities till the end of his term. Twitter has banned the president’s account permanently that has deprived him of one of his most active social media handles. His Twitter account had more than 88 million followers. Other companies to follow the league include Snapchat, Twitch, and Reddit.

Support has also been withdrawn by big tech companies that have encouraged right-wing content. Parler, a social site that was becoming increasingly popular among Trump supporters went dark after Amazon pulled the plug on its computing services. Parler was removed from Apple and Google app stores.

The moves are being lauded by liberals who say that it was long overdue. Trump has been running propaganda ever since the election results were revealed. However, conservatives have also raised questions about the power of tech companies in today’s world.

What prompted YouTube to suspend his profile came from a video posted on Wednesday where he visits Texas to a partially finished portion of the wall along the Mexican border that he had promised.

In his first public media address since the event, Trump said that his speech before the riots unfolded was appropriate and Congress’ efforts to impeach and convict him were causing him anger.

As per Jim Steyer, chief of executive of Common Sense Media, a non-profit new and media watchdog group, Trump’s suspension by YouTube was an important step towards righting the wrong. He said that although the attack on Capitol was necessary for reaching this point in history, it still shows lights at the end of the tunnel.

Trump’s YouTube channel is filled with clips from rallies and speeches including videos of supporters. The suspension came into action after months of dragging. The week after the election saw his account posting videos of his supporters challenging the outcome. Initially, they did not do anything since as per them. Questioning against the elections would have violated their policies.

YouTube has also taken the initiative to take down any video that provided misleading information as they make new changes in their policies.
