On Tuesday, a typhoon named Kammuri accompanied by heavy rains, struck Luzon, Philippines’ largest and most populated island. It caused several hours of halts in air travel, schools, and government offices. As many as 200,000 people were evacuated from their homes after warnings of floods and landslides.

This is the 20th typhoon to be witnessed by the citizens of the Philippines. The typhoon weakened a bit and moved at a slow pace across the center of the country during the night.

According to the weather bureau, the speed of the storm was varying from 155 kmph (96 mph) to 235 kmph (146 mph). The government warned every one of landslides, floods, and storm surges due to heavy winds and rain.

No reports of casualties or damages have been reported yet. The primary airport of Manila is scheduled to remain closed from 11.00 am to 11.00 pm. But, air travel is still running in unaffected areas.

Government offices and schools were shut down in the affected areas of the country. The coastguard also stopped commercial travel on the sea in the affected areas.

Local TV channels telecasted some footage of the main airport in Legazpi province that showed cables, panels, and lighting hanging from its ceiling. Some of the pictures posted by social media users showed the waves striking against bulwarks, signage, felled trees, and also damages to electricity poles.

The country has postponed several events of Southeast Asian Games, including the surfing, kayak, windsurfing, sailing and canoe contests.
